Main aim of Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL) of the Council of CSIR is to protect country’s ancient and traditional knowledge from exploitation through bio piracy and unethical patents so recently it became active when one UK Company  named Pangaea Laboratories Limited claimed for the patent of India for hair loss formula.

This company filed their application for the patent of hair loss formula in February 2011 and then TKDL objected for the same but due to evidence one on January 13, 2014 this patent application got filed into the European patent office website.

But basically this hair loss formula having medical composition containing turmeric, pine bark and green tea was claimed as the Indian patent as since the ancient times it has been used for treating the hair loss by Indian systems of medicine like Ayurveda and Unani.

TKDL of CSIR provided the evidence for above ingredients were mentioned in the texts of Ayurveda and Unani and since then these are in use for the remedies of hair loss. So it successfully refuted the claim of UK Company to patent for this medical composition of turmeric, pine bark and green tea on June 29,2015so the file application for the claim of patent by UK has been withdraw that gave victory to India for the war of patent.

Even TKDL proved itself in the war of patent for the mouth wash formula containing herb Jayaphal extract against Colgate-Palmolive with the same evidences of Ayurveda and Unani.

Traditional Knowledge Digital Library has been proven as the pioneered initiative for the protection of India’s traditional medicinal knowledge at international patent offices by the appropriate references taken from the ancient books of Ayurveda and Unani. Even for the same it has classified and structured the country’s medicine system  in approx 2500 sub groups of Ayurveda, Unani , siddha and yoga.
